Workspace Group PLC engaged ArkleBoyce Architects to transform the communal and office spaces at The Centro Buildings — a seven-building flexible workspace campus in Camden — into something that would stand apart from the typical managed office offer. Working under main contractor IIS Space UK, alongside Leonard Peters consulting engineers, Lumen Loom were brought in as both lighting specialist and controls contractor, with a scope covering product specification, supply, system design, installation oversight, and full in-house commissioning of the lighting control infrastructure.
The lighting brief set out to dissolve the boundary between office and hospitality. Throughout the reception, communal corridors, and touchdown spaces, Aqform surface-mounted linear tracks were deployed to provide flexible, high-quality directional illumination across the varied ceiling planes — exposed concrete, perforated metal, and original Victorian brick all falling within the same scheme without conflict. Zava Luce decorative pendants and wall lights were layered in to bring warmth and character to the key social areas: the kind of pieces that read as considered choices rather than functional necessities, drawing the space away from the commercial and towards something more like a well-designed hotel lounge. The result is an environment full of convenient touchdown spots and informal meeting corners, each with its own quality of light that makes lingering feel natural.
Underpinning the entire scheme is a Lutron Athena commercial lighting control system, deployed and commissioned in-house by Lumen Loom. Scene programming across all zones gives the building management team intuitive control over the atmosphere at different times of day — from an energised morning welcome through to a warmer, quieter evening presence. Daylight harvesting keeps energy performance in check without ever compromising on quality, and the system's integration-ready architecture leaves the building well placed for any future building management system connectivity.
