Restaurant Story's £2.5 million refurbishment — reopening in January 2024 as 'Story 3.0' — gave chef patron Tom Sellers the opportunity to reimagine every aspect of his Bermondsey flagship. Working alongside ArkleBoyce Architects, Lumen Loom was brought in to develop and deliver the interior lighting scheme, with a brief centred on intimacy, precision, and complete visual restraint.
Throughout the dining spaces, we specified Aqform's trimless recessed Putt Mini downlights paired with Pet Mini adjustable spotlights. The trimless format was deliberate — by eliminating visible ceiling rings and frames, the fittings dissolve into the ceiling plane entirely, allowing the architecture and the food to remain the sole focus of each guest's attention. The Putt Mini provides a clean, consistent ambient wash across the room, while the Pet Mini adjustable spots give us the precision to accent the tables themselves, casting a warm pool of light exactly where it matters most without spilling into the guest's eyeline.
On the upper-level outdoor cocktail balcony — a new addition created as part of the refurbishment — the brief shifted to something warmer and more social. Zava Luce exterior planter lights were positioned to bring a soft, intimate glow at low level, creating definition and atmosphere within the terrace planting. Our own specialist linear LED products were deployed along the roof feature and around the perimeter of the balcony, tracing the building's distinctive cantilevered profile and extending the architectural language of the facade into the evening experience.
